ALECSO Invites Interested Arab Developers to Apply for Its "ALECSO Apps Award"
As part of its ongoing efforts to promote innovation and enrich digital Arabic content, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ictQATAR) works in collaboration with Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science to support the ALECSO Apps Award - an annual award granted by the Arab League’s Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) for the best completed Arab applications in the fields of education, culture, science, and educational games. Nomination for the Award is open every year from February 1 until May 15, and submission is done electronically via the Award’s website within ALECSO’s portal.
With its iconic slogan "Arab applications with Arab competencies, support entrepreneurship and contribute to the consolidation of identity", the Award aims at spotting, recognizing and supporting young Arab talents and innovators to overcome the challenges that may be blocking their progress. The Award is also designed with the purpose of enriching and promoting the digital Arabic content and to harness the power of mobile devices in the fields of education, culture and science.
Mobile application developers all over the Arab world compete in four main categories, namely the fields of education, culture, science, and educational games. The competition falls into four main stages: launch and promotion, nominations, national assessment and the final assessment across all Arab countries. The competition jury views the nominated applications and ensures that they meet the procedural and technical conditions of participation, and then considers the accepted applications based on the adopted evaluation network. This year, the owners of the winning applications will be honored nationally in June 2015, and the winning four applications in each country will be nominated for the Greater Arab Contest, at which winners will be honored in November 2015 in the closing ceremony hosted by Doha.
Participants are required to develop an application that meets the technical specifications of the competition, either through their own tools or using ALECSO Apps Editor; and then to upload the developed application to ALECSO Apps Store. They are also required to fill in the entry form with all the necessary details.
A ten-thousand-dollar prize will be granted for each of the four winning applications in the Arab world, in addition to two five-thousand-dollar prizes, namely, the Audience Prize, which will be given to the application nominated for the Arab Contest that won the largest number of votes in the e-voting process, and the Jury’s Prize for Excellence and Innovation. However, the jury or ALECSO’s partners can propose other awards.
Every citizen in one of the Arab countries has the right to apply under one or more categories of the Award. Public and private sectors’ institutions, educational institutions, research centers, and other institutions and entities in various Arab countries can also apply for one or more categories of the Award.
